    • William and Mary Brickell - Founders of Miami and Fort Lauderdale

    by Beth Brickell

Beyond the streets and buildings that now bear the name Brickell is the rich history of William and Mary Brickell, who worked alongside Julia Tuttle and Henry Flagler to found Miami and Fort Lauderdale. Hollywood writer and director Beth Brickell (no relation to the subject) has uncovered the history of this dynamic couple, which did more to bring civilization to Miami than any other couple.

    • Miami’s Brickell Avenue Neighborhood

by Paul S. George and Casey Piket

Upon their arrival to the south bank of the Miami River in 1871, the Brickell family guided the evolution of their namesake neighborhood into one of the most affluent and interesting places in America. The Southside quarter, which began as shoreline mangroves, quickly developed into Miami's upscale residential neighborhood. As Miami grew, the area changed with the times, evolving from upscale, single-family residences to the Manhattan of the South.

    • Orange Blossom 2.0

    by Cesar A Becerra

Historian, Cesar A. Becerra unveils decades of research and buries the debate concerning Mary Brickell as Miami’s unrecognized mother. With the help of writers, researchers, journalists, historians and genealogists the world over, he has been amassing new documents and proof that Mary Bulmer Brickell could very well be the most marginalized female founder in Miami history.  Orange Blossom 2.0 is the result of his journey and gathering spree that has trickled slowly into an avalanche of evidence and tells the untold story of Miami’s “Other Mother” Mary Brickell.
